Atkins Diet, Low-Carbohydrate Diets

First published by Dr. Robert Atkins in 1972, the Atkins Diet is the most popular and best studied of the low-carbohydrate and non-calorie-restricted diets. It is also the diet that is most commonly modeled in studies of low-carbohydrate diets. The diet consists of a four-phase plan with an induction period marked by severe limitation of dietary carbohydrates (less than 20 g/day). The following phases also restrict carbohydrates, with the addition of 5–10 net carbohydrates/grams per week, utilizing weight change or lack of urine ketosis as a marker for overindulgence of carbohydrates. Correlation Between Stress and Heart Attack

Stress is a feeling of being out of control and being under unpleasant, seemingly unending pressure. Stress is dangerous for health and emotional well-being and bad for the heart. Heart Attack

Heart attack is death and damage to the heart muscles resulting from a blood clot blocking off a heart artery. The clot in the heart artery blocks the supply of blood, oxygen, and nutrients to the heart muscle. Without blood and oxygen, the heart muscle cells will die within one hour. Unless the blood supply to the heart muscle is restored within one hour, the muscle cells will not recover. Some recovery of some of the cells may occur if their blood supply is restored within six hours. After 12 hours, the cells cannot recover. This is the reason why it is crucial for patients with heart attacks or suspected heart attacks to phone for an emergency ambulance so that the diagnosis can be confirmed and the condition treated immediately.
